Brushing teeth straight after consuming corrosive, acidic food and drink might actually cause harm to the teeth, removing a small layer of tooth enamel in the process.   An emerging understanding is that the most sensible thing to do after meals is to neutralise and remove these harmful residues by rinsing the mouth with a Fluoride enriched mouthwash, something that is believed to allow tooth enamel time to harden before brushing.

Our practice owner and fellow Dentist, Dr. D.M. Murphy, has featured twice on local radio station, Radio Derby. Jo has been with us for 5 successful years and she started her career in dentistry by joining the Womens’ Royal Air Force as a Dental Nurse.  After that, she went on to sit her hygienist training in 1988 and before joining us here at Dove, she went on to work for a number of reputable hospital, NHS and private practices.

We asked Jo for her thoughts on the industry in general and on her experience in working at Dove and here’s what she said: “The hygienist role has been very exciting and constantly changing, as over the years I’ve been able to do further training to qualify in being able to place temporary fillings, take impressions, provide local anesthetic pain relief and more recently, tooth whitening” commented Jo. “As the role is always evolving, it has kept the profession fresh and interesting. I have always regarded hygienist treatment a vital part of care for the patient, and always seen the patient as a person and not just a mouth”, she added.
