From Derby To Peru For Dove Dentist
- 25 August 2010 by admin 0 Comments
Here at Dove Dental Care we’re proud of our highly qualified, hard working staff, who all place patient care as their number one priority. But for one team member, Sachin Ghodke, it’s not just the mainly Derby-based Dove Dental Care patients who will be benefiting from his expertise this October.
Sachin is part of the Dental Project Peru and as a volunteer, from the 6th to 19th of October, he’ll be providing his services free of charge to some of the most impoverished people in the country. Dental Project Peru (http://www.dentalprojectperu.org/) focuses a majority of its efforts on the Apurimac region, located in the high Andes of Peru, at an average elevation of between 3,000 and 5,000 metres above sea level.
With a population of roughly 50,000, they are currently serviced by just 2 Peruvian dentists who are said to be non-mobile, poorly equipped and under-funded. A majority of this population find it extremely difficult to acquire treatment. Unlike in Derby, most of the population has never seen a dentist or received dental treatment and education. Therefore pain and infection often go untreated.
We’re over the moon that a member of the Dove Dental Care team has volunteered his high level of expertise and time to help fill this huge gap in Peru’s health care.
Sachin would also like to appeal to you to donate to the project, which will enable Dental Project Peru to provide fluoride preventative treatment, something we all take for granted in this country. Visit www.dentalprojectperu.org for more information.
Good luck Sachin and don’t forget to send a postcard back for the surgery wall!
