Yet another excitement-packed month at Dove Dental Care with plenty of happenings to report.
Practice Owner Dr. D.M. Murphy has featured twice on Radio Derby. Firstly he was invited onto the Aleena Naylor Show with Ian Skye on 19th September to offer an insight into different approaches to Dentistry, in particular the time required to explain treatment options to patients.
He was invited back on Wednesday 19th October to provide his thoughts and advice on Bruxism (tooth grinding), including what can be done to stop the habit. For more information on tooth grinding and jaw clenching, a useful website dedicated to Bruxism can be found here!
We also randomly selected the winner of our Air Polishing competition: Catrin Russell of Duffield followed the link to our Facebook Page to 'like' it and was subsequently selected to receive this treatment free of charge.

-Tips & Tricks: After Meal Fluoride Mouthwash |

Every month we discuss simple practices that we can all adopt for healthier teeth and gums. This month we examine the merits of post-meal Fluoride Mouthwash.
We all understand that leaving food on our teeth after eating provides plaque with the fuel it needs to multiply and potentially cause a number of tooth and gum problems, but brushing straight after a meal might not be the best cause of action to take!
Brushing teeth straight after consuming corrosive, acidic food and drink might cause harm to the teeth, removing a small layer of the tooth's enamel in the process.
An emerging understanding is that the most sensible thing to do after meals is to neutralise and remove these harmful residues by rinsing the mouth with a Fluoride enriched mouthwash, something that is believed to allow tooth enamel time to harden before brushing.

We've some great professionals here at Dove Dental Care, one of whom is our referral Dentist, Dr. Gavin Welsh B.D.S ,F.D.S.R.C.S (Ed), a Specialist in Restorative Dentistry.
There's a lot we can say about Gavin, as he's a Dental professional with 9 publications on Restorative Dentistry, a host of academic awards and prizes and an impressive history in education to his name.
Gavin qualified at Edinburgh University Dental School in 1991 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has 10 years holding clinical and teaching appointments at Edinburgh, Newcastle and Liverpool Dental Hospitals.
Gavin is Dove Dental Care's Referral Specialist in Restorative Dentistry, with a special interest in the use of ceramic restorations in cosmetic and advanced Restorative Dentistry.
Placing a good number of dental implants, they're an ideal solution for damaged and missing teeth.
We feel that Gavin is a real asset to the Dove Dental Care team.
However, when he's not applying his skills in Dentistry, Gavin is a keen Golfer, Skier, Windsurfer and a Triathlonist. He also has a passion for food and drink and travel too.
