Oral Bacteria – Not Just Bad For The Mouth

You know Dove Dental Care, we’ll always be the first to advocate a good dental hygiene system. By reducing the levels of plaque-causing bacteria in our mouths we can minimise the likelihood of a wide array of common tooth and gum problems. However, recent research from the University of Bristol suggests that oral bacteria can pose a much greater risk to your health if not kept at bay by regular brushing and flossing!

Poor dental hygiene often leads to bleeding gums, which then in turn can provide an entrance into your bloodstream for bacteria such as Streptococcus, a bacteria responsible for causing tooth plaque and gum disease. Once in the system, the researchers have shown that the bacteria can then initiate blood clots in our system which can then lead to heart disease and blocked blood supply to the brain also.

So it’s really not a pleasant finding, we’d all agree, but avoiding such nasty outcomes couldn’t be simpler: Brush and floss thoroughly and regularly and the risk of oral bacteria-related heart problems will be minimised. Regular checkups and Hygienist treatment help to diagnose and treat this problem early. If you’d like any guidance on brushing or flossing, we’d be only too happy to advise you.
